{"id":5326,"date":"2025-06-10T10:27:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T08:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lido.laimburg.it\/?p=5326"},"modified":"2025-06-11T09:44:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-11T07:44:20","slug":"development-of-innovative-systems-for-collaboration-between-humans-and-robots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lido.laimburg.it\/en\/development-of-innovative-systems-for-collaboration-between-humans-and-robots\/","title":{"rendered":"Development of innovative systems for collaboration between humans and robots"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prof Karl von Ellenrieder&#8217;s<\/strong> team at the <strong>Free University of Bozen-Bolzano<\/strong> is currently testing new technologies from the <strong>European SestoSenso project<\/strong> in the <strong>LIDO digital orchard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The project centres on the development of innovative systems for <strong>collaboration between humans and robots<\/strong>. The robots should be able to adapt flexibly to different working conditions and switch seamlessly from autonomous work to cooperative mode &#8211; for example, when a human intervenes or guides the robot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of this technology is a new generation of <strong>sensors<\/strong>: numerous small touch and proximity sensors on the robot surface enable the system to perceive its surroundings precisely and act safely &#8211; both alone and in direct contact with humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The same sensor technology is also used in <strong>wearable devices such as exoskeletons<\/strong>. They are intended to increase safety when working with robots and improve the spatial orientation of users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:13px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>One specific area of application is <strong>agriculture,<\/strong> in particular <strong>grape harvesting in steep vineyards<\/strong>, as is typical in many regions of Central Europe. Workers have to harvest and place grapes by hand &#8211; a physically strenuous activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The goals are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Safe and simple collaboration<\/strong> between humans and robots &#8211; through better communication and a shared understanding of the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. A <strong>noticeable relief for the labour force<\/strong> &#8211; through the targeted use of exoskeletons and mobile robot systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:38px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim is to make grape harvesting <strong>easier, safer and more efficient<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:33px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The research is being conducted as part of the project Sestosenso \u2014 \u201cPhysical Cognition for Intelligent Control and Safe Human-Robot Interaction\u201d \u2014 funded by the European Commission under the HORIZON EUROPE Research and Innovation Actions programme.
